Schalke would be willing to move Tranquillo Barnetta on if the interest is there and the player wants to leave.
The Swiss winger remains under contract at his parent club until 2015, but is currently taking in a spell at Eintracht Frankfurt.
He will see out the season on loan, and Frankfurt have expressed a desire to keep him past that point.
Schalke have opened the door to talks, with the midfielder surplus to requirements in their ranks.
General manager Horst Heldt is, however, eager to point out that all parties would have to be satisfied in order for a summer agreement to be pushed through.
He told Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger: "Tranquillo Barnetta is on loan at Eintract Frankfurt and he is doing a good job for them.
"He is still under contract with our club, but we will discuss his future at the end of the campaign.
"I feel it will be important for any decision to be aware of Tranquillo Barnetta's point of view."
