Skibbe: One win in 10 matches

Eintracht Frankfurt have sacked head coach Michael Skibbe and appointed Christoph Daum as his replacement.

The Bundesliga club are just three points clear of the relegation play-off place, despite Saturday's win over fellow strugglers St Pauli.

Success at the weekend was the first league victory in 10 matches and as a result Skibbe, who only signed a contract extension at the beginning of 2011, has become the 10th German top-flight boss to lose his job this season.

Former Bayer Leverkusen and Cologne coach Daum has been appointed as successor on an initial contract until the conclusion of the campaign as he returns to Germany after a second spell with Fenerbahce ended last June.

"The main reason for the separation was an in-depth consideration and intensive analysis of the negative sporting development of Eintracht Frankfurt in recent months," read a statement on Frankfurt's official website.

"The board regrets this extraordinary step and would like to emphasise the previous success and positive results gained under Michael Skibbe."

The statement added with regards to Daum that both parties have the intention of working together beyond the 'stipulated time period'.
