Ivorian defender set to join Hannover

Bayer Leverkusen have allowed Ivorian full-back Constant Djakpa to join Hannover on a two-year loan deal. Leverkusen do, however, retain the right to terminate the agreement after 12 months should they wish to bring the African ace back to BayArena. Meanwhile, Bayer have also revealed that veteran midfielder Tomasz Zdebel has penned a new one-year deal with the club. The 36-year-old joined the Bundesliga outfit from rivals Bochum during the winter transfer window and made an instant impression on manager Jupp Heynckes. Bayer have also confirmed that Theofanis Gekas, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Portsmouth, has returned to the club and will be awarded a second chance to prove himself. "Theofanis Gekas is a great striker and he will return to us," Heynckes told the club's official website. "He is a player who will not have lost the sense to score." Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller added: "He will be given a new chance and we are hoping he is back on this toes soon enough to pick up confidence and gain back his old power in front of goal." With Patrick Helmes recently picking up a cruciate ligament injury which is set to sideline him for some time, Gekas may find himself leading Leverkusen's line at the start of the 2009/10 campaign.
