Lengthy lay-off for Jones

Eintracht Frankfurt's Jermaine Jones is to have surgery and will miss the rest of 2006.

Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Jermaine Jones is to undergo surgery and will miss the rest of 2006.

The 24-year-old has already had two operations in a bid to cure him of the shin problems that have plagued him for months.

However, having returned to action too soon on both occasions, he is now set for an extended period of rest and recovery.

Jones will therefore not be able to report back for training until January at the earliest.

"The prior surgeries weren't successful and now I am forced to wait an extra two months before I am allowed to start training again," he explained.

The loss of Jones is a further blow to Frankfurt coach Friedhelm Funkel, who is already without long-term injury victim Chris.

The Brazilian defender has been sidelined since spring with serious back problems.
