Borussia Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc insists the only reason rising star Marcel Schmelzer has not yet signed a new deal is because of time constraints.

The 23-year-old full-back would not be out of contract until the summer of 2012, but Dortmund are keen to end any uncertainty about his future.

With his club still runaway leaders in the Bundesliga, Schmelzer's contributory form has been acknowledged and there have been suggestions of a move elsewhere.

But Zorc is confident that the youngster will soon sign a new agreement, with reports suggesting that a two-year deal is on offer.

He told Kicker: "Marcel Schmelzer is contracted to our club until June 2012.

"However, we have already been negotiating a new deal. It is just due to a recent lack of time that he has not signed the paperwork.

"This is something we are going to catch up on as soon as possible."
