Midfielder commits his future to Bundesliga leaders

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender has signed a long-term contract that runs until 2016. The 21-year-old has been in superb form this season with his displays attracting attention from several clubs. However, the Bundesliga leaders have been quick to recognise his impact on the team this term and have acted accordingly. Bender joined Jupp Klopp's side from 1860 Munich in the summer of 2009 and has helped them to achieve an 11-point lead at the top of the table.

Deal

His old deal was due to run until 2013, but his new contract means he will be a fixture of the Dortmund team for some time to come. "I did the right thing when I joined Dortmund," Bender said. "And I want to be around when Dortmund continues to build in the future." Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc added: "Sven is an important player in our future planning."
