Keeper blow for BvB

Borussia Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller has undergone a knee operation.

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has undergone a knee operation.

The 25-year-old custodian limped out of training on Thursday after feeling pain in his left knee and an examination by BvB club doctor Markus Braun revealed a meniscus tear.

Weidenfeller was operated upon on Friday morning and now faces two to three weeks on the sidelines.

He will be replaced by Dutchman Dennis Gentenaar for Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Mainz.

Dortmund will also be without Czech Republic midfielder Tomas Rosicky who returned from international duty in Turkey with a hip injury.

Rosicky is likely to be sidelined for around three weeks and the schemer's absence will be a blow to BvB's hopes of making a late push for a European place.
