Dieter Hecking's contract as coach of Wolfsburg is about to be extended, according to the club's director of sport Klaus Allofs.

Hecking arrived at Wolfsburg in 2013 and led them to their best finish last season since they won the title in 2009.

And Aloffs says the Wolves boss will sign a new contract to keep him with the club beyond 2016, when his current deal is due to end.

"I don't know if we're going to get it done in time for the start of the season, but Dieter Hecking is going to extend his contract with us," he told Kicker magazine.

Allofs also hopes to be able to give Hecking a new defender to work with this season, confirming his club's interest in signing Antonio Rudiger from Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart.

"That wouldn't be bad," Allofs said. "Antonio is on our list and he is interested too, under certain conditions."
