Japan captain Makoto Hasebe is set to leave Wolfsburg for Nurnberg after agreeing to a three-year deal.
Nurnberg club president Martin Bader has confirmed the transfer, which is estimated to be in the region of €2 to €3 million, to local daily Nurberger Zeitun.
"Makoto knows the Bundesliga, speaks German perfectly and is a pillar of the Japan team of which he is captain," he was quoted as saying.
Hasebe explained that the opportunity for regular first team football was the main factor behind him joining Nurnberg.
"At Wolfsburg, I don't get to play as much as I want. I want to play and that's very important to me," he told Wolfsburger Nachrichten.
"I will get more opportunities at Nurnberg but also in my preferred defensive midfield position."
The 29 year-old will undergo a medical on Monday.
