Wolfsburg midfielder Thomas Kahlenberg has linked up with French club Evian on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The Denmark international has fallen out of favour at Wolfsburg this season and been made to train with the reserves by boss Felix Magath.
He revealed last month that he was hopeful of clinching a switch to France and it was thought that St Etienne were in pole position to secure his services.
But it is Evian who have won the chase after announcing on their official website that Kahlenberg has arrived on a six-month agreement.
Evian were promoted to Ligue 1 at the end of last season and have performed well in the top flight so far, currently occupying a mid-table berth.
Kahlenberg has experience of playing in France, having plied his trade with Auxerre for four years earlier in his career.
