Mike Hanke has pulled out of Germany's squad for their forthcoming European Championship qualifiers.
Germany face Republic of Ireland on Saturday and then San Marino on Wednesday but will have to make do without the services of Hanke.
Hanke was part of Germany's World Cup squad but failed to dislodge either Miroslav Klose or Lukas Podolski in their starting line-up.
The Wolfsburg hit-man has been forced to the sidelines with tonsillitis, in a withdrawal that leaves new Germany incumbent Joachim Low with four strikers in his squad, Klose, Podolski, Oliver Neuville and Gerald Asamoah.
Hanke's absence has been compounded by the fact Germany are also missing all four of their central defenders that featured at the World Cup.
