German Under-21 international Maik Franz has threatened to leave Bundesliga leaders VfL Wolfsburg after being frustrated about being frozen out of Erik Gerets' starting XI.

The talented youngster joined Wolves three years ago from FC Magdeburg and has made 59 league appearances but has been unavailable this season due to injuries, illnesses and suspensions.

Franz, whose contract runs up to 2007, has now returned to full fitness but is yet to start a game this season.

Franz said: "I am the last one in the pecking order now. I don't want to make any trouble but I am very unhappy about my situation and have to consider my future here."

Kevin Hofland and Facundo Quiroga are Gerets' first-choice central defensive pairing while Marino Biliskov appears to be the next alternative.
