Hamburg are keen to retain the services of coach Thorsten Fink beyond the end of his current contract.
The former Bayern Munich midfielder moved to the Imtech Arena in October 2011 from FC Basel, and guided the German side away from the Bundesliga's relegation zone.
With Hamburg currently sixth in the table, general manager Frank Arnesen is pleased with the progress made under Fink and is willing to start contract negotiations with the 45-year-old over a year before his current deal expires.
"Thorsten Fink fits in well," Arnesen told the Morgenpost newspaper.
"He is the right person for Hamburg and the first team is on the right track under his guidance.
"I think Thorsten Fink can remain manager of this club for a very long period of time. We are interested in signing a new contract with him at the end of this season."
