Fortuna Dusseldorf coach Norbert Meier has denied reports the club have made a move to re-sign Maximilian Beister from Hamburg.
Beister spent the previous two seasons on loan at Dusseldorf and played an influential role in the club's promotion to the Bundesliga last term.
He has yet to fully establish himself back at Hamburg and that had prompted rumours of a return to Dusseldorf, but Meier has dismissed the speculation.
"You could think about Maxi all the time but there haven't been any talks, there haven't been any negotiations," Meier told Hamburger Morgenpost.
"No-one has attempted anything, neither party has."
Hamburg's general manager Frank Arnesen added: "Maximilian Beister is part of our plans for the future. We do not have any other thoughts about him."
The 22-year-old has been capped at Germany Under 21 level and started Hamburg's game at Dusseldorf on Friday night.
