German coach pleased with win

Germany coach Joachim Low was happy with his team's performance after they comfortably beat Euro 2008 co-hosts Switzerland on Wednesday. Two goals by Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez and one each for Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski saw the Germans cruise to victory at St. Jakob Park in Basel, and Low was quick to praise the improvements made since their last match against Austria in February. "I am pretty pleased with the performance," Low told reporters after the game. "We concentrated hard from the outset and were well organised. We played with much more intensity and aggression that against Austria. We got some answers to open questions."

Low will not announce his final Euro squad until May 16th but gave a strong hint that versatile Schalke defender Heiko Westermann could have played his way into the reckoning following a strong showing in his second international on Wednesday. "It was a Euro qualifier for each and every player. Heiko Westermann particularly impressed me, that was a very competent and positive performance," he concluded.
