Dutch national team boss Marco van Basten has drafted in Theo Lucius as replacement for Khalid Boulahrouz.

HSV defender Boulahrouz is suspended for Wednesday's home qualifier with Finland after picking up a caution at the weekend against FYR Macedonia.

Van Basten discussed his options with his back-room staff on Sunday before opting to draft in PSV midfielder Lucius.

Lucius beat off competition from Az Alkmaar's Jan Kromkamp and Birmingham's Mario Melchiot to a place in the squad.

The Oranje boss, meanwhile, has opted to release Willem II winger Kevin Bobson from the party, with Ruud van Nistelrooy returning from suspension.

Lucius has spoken of both his surprise and delight at landing an international call-up.

''I with Oranje - who would have thought it?,'' said Lucius. ''I never thought Van Basten would end with me.

''Three weeks ago I was in the stand but now I train with the best footballers in the country. It can be really strange.

''But I find this fantastic.''
