Former Lyon star Jimmy Briand has set his sights on winning a move to the Premier League this summer, Sky Sports understands.

France international Briand is a free agent after seeing out his contract at Lyon earlier this summer.

The news has alerted a host of clubs across Europe to Briand's availability as he has wealth of experience having played at the highest level with Lyon in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League.

Despite being played in a wide position for a large period of his career, Briand has scored 55 goals and laid on 42 assists in Ligue 1.

The 29-year-old, who has been linked with a move to England in the past, is now keen to play in the Premier League and is open to offers after admitting he regrets not taking up opportunities to play there previously.

"I should have come to England a long time ago as I got the opportunities to go there, but I never went and I regret my decision," Briand told Sky Sports.

"I have scored lots of goals at Rennes and Lyon and I could have scored more if I was played up front rather than on the right, on the left and behind the striker.

"I am looking forward to playing as a striker and if I play there on a regular basis I am confident I will score goals for whoever I join."

Agent Willie McKay confirmed he is talking to several clubs about Briand and he believes the Frenchman would be a bargain for any interested parties.

"I signed a contract with Jimmy recently and he is looking to move to England," said McKay.

"He is one of the best free agents around as he has played at the highest level for club and country and he played with Bafetimbi Gomis at Lyon who was also a free transfer this summer.

"If played in the right position as a striker he will score goals for the right club."
