Giovanni Trapattoni was recently turned down for the Hannover 96 manager's job, according to chairman Martin Kind.
The former Republic of Ireland boss was one of a host of names to apply for the post, but the Bundesliga outfit have since appointed Tayfun Korkut as Mirko Slomka's replacement.
Trapattoni is still highly-regarded in Germany from his spells with Bayern Munich, but although Kind feels he has got his man, he admits it was an honour for the Italian to show an interest.
"The decision in favour of Tayfun Korkut is no risk. We feel it's a courageous choice with a vision," he told BILD.
"I have a really big file with all applications received. My personal highlight was the one of Giovanni Trapattoni.
"It is almost an honour that he started to pick up an interest in a club like us."
