Bundesliga outfit want to keep defensive midfielder

Hannover head coach Mirko Slomka is hopeful of keeping star midfielder Manuel Schmiedebach at the club, despite interest from Italy. The 22-year-old, who extended his contract at the start of last season has been offered a new deal at the AWD-Arena, but the player is reluctant to sign it and wants to see how the club start the season before making a decision. Serie A clubs AC Milan and Udinese have both been linked with the player after watching him in pre-season. However, Slomka told Kicker-Sportmagazin: "Schmiedebach has been a true regular for us last season and has played a vital role in the team. "I am definitely hoping that he will be signing a new deal at our club and I feel that we clearly have a chance to tie him down to a new deal."
