Hamburg and Bochum both boosted their survival prospects with home wins.
Resurgent Hamburg claimed a 1-0 success over Wolfsburg, while Bochum earned a valuable 2-0 triumph against Hannover.
Iranian ace Mehdi Mahdavikia was Hamburg's hero as he scored the only goal of the game on the hour mark.
Bochum put their game with Hannover to bed by half-time as Theofanis Gekas scored on 35 and 42 minutes.
Hamburg have moved up to 10th spot with the win, and level with Wolfsburg, while Bochum are not out of the bottom three.
