Hertha Berlin defender has sustained knee ligament damage

Hertha Berlin defender Maik Franz is facing six months on the sidelines after suffering a knee ligament injury. The former Eintracht Frankfurt player, who joining Hertha on a free transfer at the beginning of the season, suffered the problem in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Kaiserslautern. Franz is frustrated with the news and wants to recover as soon as possible so that he can try and fight his way back into the first-team again. "I am expecting to have surgery already this week. It is a tough blow and very difficult for me to handle," he told the club's official website. "Anyway I now have to fight six months to return to action and full fitness." Hertha boss Markus Babbel was also upset by the news and has nothing but praise for the German defender. "This is bitter news, for Maik Franz as a player as well as for us as a club," he said. "He is a true professional. He had not been a regular all the time this season but his behaviour was always great."
