Markus Babbel: Will be out of contract at the end of the season

Hertha Berlin boss Markus Babbel will not agree a new contract before Christmas, according to club general manager Michael Preetz.

The former Liverpool defender will be out of contract at the end of the season and talks are taking place with regards to an extension.

But Preetz has announced at an annual meeting of members that Babbel's future will not be decided until after the Bundesliga's winter break.

Preetz said: "Markus Babbel and Hertha Berlin are actually in a process of consideration.

"During this process, Markus Babbel only talks to Hertha Berlin, not to any other club. And there will be enough of time to think about it during the winter break.

"I am, however, able to assure you that the final decision will not be made until the resumption of the Bundesliga against Nurnberg in January."
