Hertha Berlin's new loan signing Vaclav Sverkos believes the move could help force himself into the Czech Republic squad for the World Cup finals.
Sverkos came to Hertha as part of the deal that took striker Nando Rafael in the opposite direction to Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Czech Under-21 captain hopes the move will help him catch the eye of Czech Republic first-team coach Karel Bruckner.
Sverkos said: "It is clear that I will have to fight for my starting place as well in Borussia. I want to improve my abilities, to work hard and maybe I will get to go to the World Cup.
"It is the truth that I have only a small chance of going to the World Cup as I have not played very often at Gladbach, but I will try to hold Mr Bruckner's interest."
Sverkos also expressed his delight on moving to one of the Bundesliga's top teams.
"Hertha are great, from all the opportunities I have had, this has been the best choice.
"They (Hertha Berlin) belong to the Bundesliga's top teams, moreover have constantly played in the Uefa Cup, it will be certainly better than at Gladbach.
"I would not like to speak about Borussia; I had a bad feeling from the things that have been around me."
Sverkos added: "For example in last week's game against Bayern Munich, we are down and I sit on the bench and our coach did not even use the possibility of putting a third substitute into the game, I don't know what to do about this, nobody told me anything."
The striker confirmed that he has a good feeling about the move to Hertha and thinks he will have a good relationship with Hertha coach Falko Gotz.
"He (Falko Gotz) told me that he wanted me a year ago and he has explained to me the tactics, I have good feelings about the move."
Hertha are currently fifth in Die Bundesliga 11 points off a UEFA Champions League place.
