Hertha in swap deal

Hertha Berlin striker Nando Rafael has joined Borussia Monchengladbach.

Hertha Berlin striker Nando Rafael has joined Borussia Monchengladbach with Vaclav Sverkos moving in the opposite direction.

Angolan-born Rafael has failed to hold down a regular first-team place at Hertha this season and will be looking to kick-start his career at Borussia Park, where he has signed a three-and-a-half year contract.

Meanwhile, Hertha are looking to Czech Under-21 captain Sverkos to lift their flagging campaign after falling 11 points behind a UEFA Champions League place.

Hertha's general manager Dieter Hoeness expressed his delight at capturing Sverkos on a six-month loan deal.

"We are delighted to have landed Vaclav Sverkos; his offensive qualities will undoubtedly improve our game."

Sverkos has scored one goal in 12 appearances for Gladbach this season.
