The 21-year-old midfielder, who is generally regarded as one of the most promising talents in German football, would like to stay at the Olympic Stadium until at least 2006.
"We have been in contact with Hertha and will continue talking," confirmed Marx's agent Jorg Neubauer.
"I'm not sure, however, whether we will reach agreement on a new deal during the winter break."
Marx has established himself in Hertha's first team this season under coach Huub Stevens, making 13 appearances for The Old Lady.
