Simon Rolfes: Has signed a new contract at Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen skipper Simon Rolfes has signed a new contract that will keep him at the German club until June 2015.
Since joining in 2005, midfielder Rolfes has played in 291 matches for Leverkusen netting 39 goals, and his contract was due to expire at the end of this season.
"So far I have been through an exciting and successful career at this club." Rolfes told the club's official website.
"But for me it's about what we do in the future, in the next two campaigns.
"Here at Bayer Leverkusen, continuity has been a certain factor. This team has developed step by step and there is a great mixture of experienced players and up and coming stars.
"I would like to contribute further to his team, and I am positive we will be able to be successful in years to come. "
Rolfes brings a wealth of experience to Leverkusen's side and has played in 26 matches for Germany, netting two goals, but missed the 2010 World Cup due to a knee injury.
Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller is delighted that Rolfes is staying, commenting: "The signature of Simon is big news for our future players.
"Simon has great strategic skills and was a great contributor to our recent success. He will continue to be an important figure in the coming seasons."
