Veteran keeper aims to repay Andalucian club's faith

Andres Palop wants to repay Sevilla for extending his contract and now plans to end his playing days with the Andalucian club. The 33-year-old goalkeeper was offered an extension to his current deal and jumped at the chance to put pen-to-paper to keep him at the club until 2011. An instrumental member of Sevilla's recent rise to prominence, the former Valencia custodian has been rewarded for his fine performances. "Sevilla were under no obligation to extend my contract," Palop explained. "There was mutual interest from both sides to renew it and I am very pleased because I am settled in the city and feel a strong bond with this club. "There was no doubt that I wanted to finish my career at Sevilla and they wanted the same."

Old as you feel

Palop does not believe that his age is any barrier as he still feels fit and healthy, of the belief that still having the desire is the key. "I have not had many knocks. I think in my position the thing is more mental," he explained. "Take Raul for example. People say that he is not at his best, but he started playing when he was 17, which was a long time ago. He plays regularly on Sunday and Wednesdays and that would affect you psychologically. "I am the opposite and my age is just a number because physically and mentally I am fine."
