Hamburg maintained the pressure on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich as they dealt Cologne's survival hopes a telling blow with a 1-0 victory at the Rhein-Energie Stadion.

Felix Magath's Bayern outfit are now just two points clear at the top of the table, although they have three games left whilst Hamburg have two in what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the campaign.

A third minute strike from Sergei Barbarez (pictured) ensured the title race remains open whilst Cologne stay four points shy of safety in 17th position.

Bayer Leverkusen consolidated fifth place in their hunt for Uefa Cup football with a comprehensive 5-1 win at the home of close rivals Hertha Berlin.

The visitors began the day just two points ahead of Hertha but a stunning first half hour put them firmly in control.

Brazilian defender Juan (5) opened the scoring, before Bulgarian hot-shot Dimitar Berbatov grabbed two inside 60 seconds (27, 28).

Although Marcelinho (42) hit back before the break, Carsten Ramelow (63) and Bernd Schneider (67) capped off a fine display from Leverkusen.

FC Nurnberg also produced a thumping display against their near rivals in the table as they hammered Borussia Monchengladbach 5-2 at home.

Although the game effectively counted for little, Nurnberg had a hat-trick display from striker Robert Vittek to thank for a morale-boosting win.

Vittek opened the scoring on 14 minutes before Santos Jose Antonio (34) and Wesley Sonck (36) stunned the home support.

However, a further two goals from Vittek (65, 86), as well as contributions from Jan Polak (59) and Stefan Kiessling (87) ensured Nurnberg claimed all three points to move into joint eighth place.

Hannover remain in the relegation fight after allowing themselves to compromise a winning position as they lost 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund.

Per Mertesacker (45) had put Hannover ahead, but Tomas Rosicky (59) and Christian Worns (80) ensured they remain just six points clear of the bottom three.
