Bayer Leverkusen youngster Gonzalo Castro has been told to decide if he wants to represent Germany or Spain at international level.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who has Spanish parents but was born in Germany, has impressed since breaking into Bayer's first team this season and German Under-21 boss Dieter Eilts is keen to integrate him into his squad.

"We would be very happy if he pledges his future to the DFB. There is no problem with it as he was born here and his football roots are in this country," the former Werder Bremen star said.

Eilts has spoken to Castro about his future and expects a decision in the near future.

"I need to make up my mind in the coming days whether I want to play for Germany or Spain," Castro commented.

"Eilts has told me what he expects from me, but it is a difficult decision that is very important for my future," he added.
