BAYER LEVERKUSEN midfielder Pascal Ojigwe has signed a three-year deal with Bundesliga rivals Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Nigerian was expected to leave the BayArena, as the club look to cut costs following their failure to secure Champions League football next season.

Now he has a chance to further his career, after enjoying only limited opportunities during his three years at Bayer.

Gladbach sport director Christian Hochstatter was delighted to have got his man and feels he will be a big asset to the club.

He said: "This signing will prove to be a significant strengthening of our defensive unit, but Pascal is an all-rounder who can fill in in other positions too."

It is unlikely that the 26-year-old will be the last to leave Bayer, as the former Champions League runners-up look to trim their wage bill.

Gladbach, however, have already signed Stuttgart defender Bradley Carnell and Finnish international winger Joonas Kolkka as manager Ewald Lienen looks to assemble a squad capable of consolidating the club's place in the Bundesliga next term.
