Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola said it would be the “perfect decision” for Bastian Schweinsteiger to remain with the club, but admits the decision lies with the player.

Speculation surrounding Schweinsteiger’s Munich future intensified when sporting director Matthias Sammer admitted he could leave the club this summer, while Sky sources revealed last week that Manchester United had the German international on their list of transfer targets.

Schweinsteiger has one year left on his current contract at Munich and has said he wants to help Bayern become the first side to win four straight German league titles in the history of the Bundesliga next season.

"I have already said, read and heard a lot of things about Basti, but his future depends on him," said Guardiola.

"I think he will stay, but only he can decide. If he stays, that would be the perfect decision for me. He is a top player."
