Treble-chasing Bayern Munich claimed a third straight Bundesliga title without kicking a ball after Wolfsburg fell to a 1-0 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bayern, German champions for the 25th time, beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 on Saturday thanks to a late Bastian Schweinsteiger goal but had to put the champagne on ice until after second-placed Wolfsburg had played.

A Wolves draw on Sunday would have sent the title to Munich but Gladbach's Max Kruse condemned them to defeat with his 90th-minute winner at Borussia Park, Pep Guardiola's side finishing the weekend with an unassailable 15-point lead with four games to spare.

The Bavarian side have now won three Bundesliga titles in a row and are on course to repeat their 2013 treble of European, league and cup titles.

They host arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday in a last-four German Cup clash and then take on Guardiola's former side, Barcelona, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals on May 6, with the return leg six days later.

"Retaining the title is a magnificent achievement. All credit to the coach and the team," Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on the club's website.

"They've been fantastic throughout, in a season following a World Cup where we had a host of players in action."

In Sunday's other game, Paderborn blew a two-goal lead and remain in the relegation places after their 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen.

Mario Vrancic and midfielder Moritz Stoppelkamp had set them on course for a victory that would have seen them escape the bottom three but Germany U19 striker Davie Selke pulled one back just before half-time and then Izet Hajrovic equalised on 76 minutes.

Just two minutes later the hosts had midfielder Michael Heinloth sent off for a second yellow card and any comeback was made even more unlikely.
