Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has tipped Uli Hoeness to improve the club's youth development system when he starts work back at the Bundesliga club in January.

Hoeness is currently serving a prison sentence after being found guilty of tax evasion, but he is to be granted day release in the new year.

Bayern have offered Hoeness a job in their youth department and Lahm says he thinks the 62-year-old will really make a difference.

"We're all looking forward to seeing what happens," Lahm told Sky television. "I think he can make a lot of improvements in our youth system.

"He has so much experience and is always very open when you talk to him, and that's something we miss.

"Not only I miss him, but everybody who was able to get to know him does, which is why we're all looking forward to having discussions with him again.

"He made the club as big as it is now."

Meanwhile, Lahm has tipped Joachim Low to claim the FIFA World Coach of the Year award next month.

"Any coach who wins the World Cup has got to be the best coach in the world," said the 31-year-old.

"I can't see any other candidate."
