Transfer news: Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina ruling nothing out in summer window

Pepe Reina is preparing to return to Liverpool, but claims a move to Spain or Italy remains a possibility this summer.

The experienced goalkeeper spent the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Napoli having been deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield following the arrival of Simon Mignolet.

A switch to Serie A allowed him to link up with Rafa Benitez for a second time, having previously worked with his fellow countryman in England.

Reina has been open in his desire to stay on in Naples, with there little to suggest that his situation is about to improve at Liverpool.

Talk of a return to La Liga has also been mooted for the former Barcelona and Villarreal shot-stopper, with Atletico Madrid among those said to be keen.

Reina says he will be keeping his options open once he heads back to Merseyside, with there every chance that he will be on the move when the transfer window re-opens.

The 31-year-old told Onda Cero: “As things stands, I will return to Liverpool after the World Cup.

“A return to Spain is always possible, particularly at my age.

“But I also have a chance to continue at Napoli. I was happy in Italy and the project of Rafa Benitez is excellent.”

For now, though, Reina’s focus is locked on World Cup duty, with Spain heading to Brazil looking to successfully defend the global crown they claimed in South Africa back in 2010.

He added: “I dream of winning the World Cup in the Maracana against Brazil.

“But I know that will not be easy because of the pressure we are under and the fact that we are looking to land four successive titles.

“We have huge responsibility because we are champions, but that is positive.

“The group is very united and Spain are one big family. We are 23 brothers and our relationship is very good.”
