Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has confirmed he is keen on signing Bayern Munich forward Claudio Pizarro.
The 34-year-old re-joined Bayern from Werder Bremen last summer and scored 10 goals in just 26 appearances for the Treble winners last season.
The Peru international is out of contract at the end of the month and it remains to be seen whether he will be offered a new deal, meaning he could be available on a Bosman free transfer.
Should Pizarro quit the Allianz Arena then fellow Bundesliga outfit Hamburg are rumoured to be considering a deal to sign him.
Schalke are also keen, with Heldt publicly declaring their interest in the veteran forward.
"Claudio Pizarro is a very good player. He holds quality and the mentality of a winner," he said.
"I expect him to not quit the game and would rather keep on playing for a few more years.
"If he decides not to remain with Bayern Munich for the new season we will be out to consider his general situation."
