The agent of Lewis Holtby has denied Bayern Munich have already made an approach for the outgoing Schalke midfielder.

Germany's Under 21 captain is to leave Schalke at the end of the season when his contract expires and he will have his pick of interested clubs.

Arsenal and Liverpool have long been linked with Holtby and runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern are also thought to be considering a transfer.

But Holtby's agent, Markus Noack, told TZ newspaper: "There is no interest from Bayern Munich in the services of Lewis Holtby. This is just pure speculation.

"Bayern Munich have not enquired about Lewis Holtby."

Meanwhile, Schalke have confirmed talks with the representatives of Mainz's Germany Under 21 defender, Jan Kirchhoff, over a possible move at the end of the season his contract also expires.

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt told Reviersport: "This is an interesting player, a player who will be a Bosman at the end of the current season.

"We are in touch with his agent, not least because his agent is the agent of several of our first-team players. We are not in touch with Mainz."
