Bayern Munich are confident of signing Claudio Pizarro after offering their former striker a deal.
The 33-year-old is available as a free agent due to a clause in his contract at Werder Bremen which allows him to leave 12 months before the conclusion of his terms.
And Bayern director of sport Christian Nerlinger has revealed talks have taken place with Pizarro, who first left Bayern to join Chelsea in 2007 following six years in Munich.
After missing several chances to suffer a painful defeat by Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final, Bayern are keen for more firepower.
Pizarro scored 18 goals in 29 Bundesliga matches for Bremen this season and his instincts could also help Bayern in their bid to overtake domestic champions Borussia Dortmund.

Nerlinger told
ARD media: "We are in talks with Claudio Pizarro. We would like to sign him.
"We have offered him a contract and, as far as I am concerned, things look fine."
Meanwhile, Bayern have defended Arjen Robben after he was booed by fans at a friendly on Tuesday against Holland following his extra-time penalty failure against Chelsea.
"Just like the other players, fans and friends of Bayern, Arjen Robben is deeply disappointed and affected by the undeserved defeat on penalties against Chelsea," said Bayern chief executive officer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a statement.
"But it is the style of Bayern and their fans to give the one who has fallen down the hand and help him. This morning, we have received a lot of reactions from Bayern fans who apologise on behalf of those who whistled.
"Bayern wish Arjen Robben a good and successful European Championship and look forward to having him back in the Bayern group in July."
