Hoffenheim offer Bundesliga stay to Japan international

Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel hopes the loan signing of Takashi Usami will give his team greater variety in attack in 2012/13. The Gamba Osaka player has agreed another season-long deal in the Bundesliga after spending the last campaign on a temporary move at Bayern Munich. And Babbel thinks Japan international Usami has all the attributes to prove a success at Hoffenheim, despite struggling to make an impact at the Allianz Arena. "We will be more variable in our attack thanks to Takashi Usami," Babbel told his club's official website. "He is ambitious, very agile and quick, and he is technically strong with a good shot on him.

Chances

"We are looking forward to having him here." Usami was restricted to just three Bundesliga appearances and one in the UEFA Champions League for Bayern. He played 18 times for their reserve team, though, and found the back of the net six times, convincing former Bayern defender Babbel he still has a bright future. "I want to make the breakthrough in the Bundesliga and I can only do that if I am playing," said Usami. "I hope to earn chances to play at Hoffenheim and have the best possible success with the club." Peniel Mlapa is leaving Hoffenheim, though, after signing a four-year contract with Borussia Monchengladbach for an undisclosed fee.
