Markus Babbel will not be named the new manager of Bayern Munich in the summer, according to chairman Uli Hoeness.

The former Liverpool defender is currently in charge of Hertha Berlin but has increased speculation about his future by refusing to sign a new deal to stay on past the end of this season.

But Hoeness has angrily slammed reports in the German press that Babbel will return to his hometown club where he won six Bundesliga titles to replace 66-year-old Jupp Heynckes.

"This is pure rubbish," said Hoeness. "You can be assured we are not going to downgrade Jupp Heynckes to a figurehead.

"He is under contract with us until June 2013 and we will definitely not consider his job any time.

"Jupp Heynckes is our manager. He has been signed to do this and will perform this role until he retires from the game.

"I am very sure of that. I am also sure he is not to manage another club after ending his spell with us.

"He will remain with us until June 2013 or June 2014 in the job as manager and in no other role."
