Hoeness plays down Dutch rift

Van Marwijk expressed his annoyance at the Bundesliga club late last week after Bayern's club doctor, Hans-Wilhem Muller-Wohlfart, claimed that a groin injury Robben had sustained "had developed over the last few days" - while he had been on international duty.

The Oranje coach hit back by insisting the national team were not at fault and that he was furious they had been blamed for Robben's fitness problems.

He also said Dutch team doctor Gert-Jan Goudswaart had "doubted" Bayern's diagnosis of a pubic bone inflammation after performing a thorough examination on the 27-year-old.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge moved to cool the argument at the weekend, insisting it was a misunderstanding.

And Hoeness has echoed that sentiment by making it clear there is no row between Bayern and the Dutch Football Association (KNVB), insisting the Oranje did the right thing in sending Robben back to Munich to recover from the knock.

No rift

"There is definitely no rift between us and the Dutch people, simply because the Dutch FA behaved in a fully correct manner," Hoeness told Sport1 television.

"It would be a total misunderstanding to believe there is a conflict. The animosity towards each other in recent days was completely unnecessary.

"The Dutch FA sent Arjen Robben home after taking a look at his injury. We never said the injury occurred when they had him at their training camp."

Robben underwent surgery on his groin after returning to Bayern last week and Hoeness is upbeat over his recovery.

He added: "I hope to see him back fit for jogging exercises in a week's time before starting training later on. Then he will be healthy again."
