Brazilian defender Rafinha has returned to Germany after signing for Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old spent five years with Schalke before making an €8million move (£7m) to Genoa last summer, helping them to a mid-table finish in this season's Serie A.
But Bayern are keen to reinforce their squad after a disappointing campaign and the German giants confirmed on Wednesday they had completed a deal for Rafinha.
The one-cap international underwent a medical on Tuesday before signing a three-year contract until June, 2014, with Bayern reported to be paying a fee €5.3m (£4.6m).
Rafinha's arrival could end Bayern's interest in signing a new left-back as captain Philipp Lahm is expected to switch from right-back to the opposite side of defence.
Earlier in the day, the Bavarian outfit confirmed Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had agreed to sign for them when he returns from international duty with Germany.
