Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro expects to miss their UEFA Champions League clash with Tottenham on Tuesday evening through injury.
The former Chelsea player continues to be hampered by a thigh muscle problem he sustained in the 4-2 win over Cologne at the end of last month.
Peru forward Pizarro was forced to miss the internationals against Jamaica and Canada and did not feature in Bremen's 0-0 Bundesliga draw against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
He told reporters: "I do not think I will be able to play. I have made some progress, I am feeling better right now, but I still have to overcome it.
"I had hoped I would be closer to fitness at this point in time, but I still need to fully recover.
"I do not think I will be ready for the fixture against Tottenham this week."
Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf will also be without defensive duo Naldo and Per Mertesacker through injury for their opening Group A encounter.
