Italy striker Luca Toni has not given up hope of playing against France on Saturday.

Toni suffered a thigh injury in action for his new club Bayern Munich a fortnight ago, and Azzurri coach Roberto Donadoni admitted this week it would be 'difficult' for him to play against France.

However, a decision on Toni's participation will be left as late as possible and he is hoping to be fit in time.

"I'll do everything to be there. I still have a small muscle problem, but it's minor," Toni told the Italian press.

"I'll do everything I can to recover, and then Donadoni will make his decision."

If Toni is ruled out, Filippo Inzaghi is likely to come in and lead Italy's attack in the rematch of last summer's World Cup.

Toni would then have to focus on recovering for Italy's qualifier in Ukraine next Wednesday.
