Bayern Munich missed the chance to pull level on points with co-leaders Werder Bremen and Schalke after a 3-2 defeat at Borussia Dortmund.
In the first Bundesliga game since the end of the German top-flight's lengthy winter break, it was Dortmund that delighted the Signal-Iduna-Park crowd when Swiss international Alexander Frei struck on 12 minutes.
Bayern then claimed the lead by half-time, as goals from Belgian Daniel van Buyten (25) and Dutch striker Roy Makaay (42) made it 2-1.
Dortmund, however, turned the tide in the second half with two goals in two minutes.
Frei claimed his second on 57 minutes before Paulo Tinga (59) struck the winner for Dortmund.
The result takes the home side up to seventh in the Bundesliga table, while Bayern stay third and three points behind front-runners Bremen and Schalke.
