Bayern Munich are likely to be without defender Lucio for around three weeks after the Brazilian injured his ankle at the weekend.
Lucio picked up the knock during the 3-1 defeat to Werder Bremen, but Bayern had initially hoped the stopper would only miss a week of action.
However, the German champions have confirmed the severity of the injury means Lucio will be sidelined for longer.
Bayern are already without Valerien Ismael because of a broken leg and they will now be missing the services of Lucio for up to five games.
The 28-year-old will sit out Wednesday's German Cup game against Kaiserslautern and the visit of Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League at the end of the month.
He is also likely to miss three Bundesliga games against Eintracht Frankfurt, Schalke and Hannover.
