Bayern claim opening day win

Champions Bayern Munich resumed normal service in their Bundesliga opener.

German champions Bayern Munich resumed normal service in the first Bundesliga game of the season as they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0.

A sold-out Allianz Arena hosted a comfortable victory for Bayern as Roy Makaay and then Bastian Schweinsteiger gave Felix Magath's side the spoils.

Prolific Dutchman Makaay had the accolade of grabbing the first goal of the new campaign as he rifled in a trademark effort from the edge of the area in the 24th minute.

Earlier in the contest Makaay had been denied by a fine save from Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller and then the post, as Bayern quickly established a decent rhythm to their game.

Ten minutes after the interval saw Bayern grab a second when Schweinsteiger took a pass from team-mate Philipp Lahm to register with a crisp finish.

In the end Bayern could have added to their lead but were more than content to take a three point haul from a game that marked goalkeeper Oliver Kahn's 500th Bundesliga appearance with a win.
