A newspaper report claims that German international midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is involved in a new betting scandal.

The Munich-based newspaper tz claims that Bayern Munich star Schweinsteiger and 1860 Munich duo Paul Agostino and Quido Lanzaat have been interviewed by the public prosecutor's office in connection with possible manipulation of games following alleged information from inside sources.

Both clubs firmly deny that their players have been involved in any wrongdoing.

In a press release Bayern Munich bosses stressed that the report was complete fiction, saying that Schweinsteiger had not been questioned by investigators and that the player had assured them that he had never bet on games.

Both Uli Hoeness [Bayern general manager] and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge [Bayern chairman] told journalists that the German champions would take the newspaper to court and sue for slander.
