Bayern Munich defender Philip Lahm hopes that his international comeback against Italy will help him seal a World Cup berth.
The 22-year-old returns to the German line-up in Florence on Wednesday after more than a year's absence due to injury and is determined to show Jurgen Klinsmann that he is the answer to his country's weakness on the left side of defence.
Klinsmann has tried several players in the position over the past 12 months, with Monchengladbach youngster Marcell Jansen making the best impression, however, Lahm says he does not fear the competition.
"I'm looking forward to the duel with Marcell," said Lahm.
"It's going to be tough but competition is good for everybody in football.
"There are still a good few weeks until the World Cup so I have plenty of time to show Jurgen Klinsmann that I should be in the squad."
