Bayern begin with win

Bayern Munich began their tour of Japan with a 4-0 win over FC Tokyo.

Bayern Munich began their tour of Japan in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 win over FC Tokyo.

The German champions have followed the example set by many of Europe's top clubs by showcasing their stars in the important Asian market.

Bayern made a positive impression thanks to goals from Roy Makaay, Lucio, Paolo Guerrero and Hasan Salihamidzic.

Dutch star Makaay opened the scoring on 19 minutes before Lucio headed in after half an hour.

Midfielder Salihamidzic and Peruvian starlet Guerrero, both substitutes, then completed the rout in the second half.

Bayern fielded inspirational German captain Michael Ballack despite doubts persisting over his future in the face of rumoured interest from Manchester United.

Coach Felix Magath declared himself happy with the comfortable warm-up despite the failure of the home side to put up sufficient resistance.

"I was very pleased with our performance," said Magath.

"FC Tokyo were quick but I don't think we felt like we were ever really tested properly."
