CHAMPIONS LEAGUE winners Bayern Munich have revealed they will not be allowing strikers Claudio Pizarro of Peru and Brazilian Giovane Elber to travel to play in the troubled Copa America because of security problems.

Bayern vice-president Franz Beckenbauer admitted that the player's safety in Colombia was too big a factor to risk.

"This decision (to hold the tournament) is based only on financial considerations and we do not accept it," Beckenbauer said.

"Elber and Pizarro have other plans. More important for us is that the security of Pizarro and Elber is not secured."

Colombia won back the right to host the Copa America on Friday after it was originally postponed to 2002 due to unrest in the country. A number of political killings and kidnappings originally led the South American Soccer Confederation to suspend the competition from taking place.
